I don’t know about you, but this year I’m welcoming any opportunity to break out of my sweatpants and slip into something refreshingly different—especially as we move into a warmer season ahead. Luckily, the S/S 21 collections brought a lot of cool (and comfortable) trends that I can’t wait to try this year—including a handful of exciting skirt trends. It feels like a lifetime since I’ve actually worn a proper skirt so all the striking styles that graced the runways have captured my attention more than ever.
Below, I’m sharing the five standout skirt styles that reigned on the runways and are set to be all over Instagram come spring. From the prettiest sheer pieces that have us lusting for a romantic summer to the rise of the fun and frivolous micro-mini, scroll below to see what the new season has to offer and shop our favorites to get ahead of the trend.
Say hello to sky-high hemlines this spring. Micro minis dominated the collections—perhaps the indirect consequence of such a restricted 2020. Pair the fun and frivolous skirt with flats and a modest knit top. Wrap skirts are back in the limelight, thanks to a whole host of designers from Peter Do to Miu Miu giving a fresh spin to the timeless piece. The best part? They’re so easy to style with everything from basic white tees to bodysuits and knit sweaters. Skin is in for spring 2021—as evidenced by the number of skin-baring silhouettes and styles on the runways. Sheer skirts (and dresses for that matter) caught our eye—creating feminine, dreamy, and romantic looks that many of us are craving this year. What’s the chicest ways to style your skirt this season? As part of a suit or coordinating set, of course. Cute and charming two-pieces were seen in a variety of styles, prints, fabrics, and silhouettes and will be one of the easiest and chicest no-think outfits you can throw on this spring. Shop the matching Tweed Blazer ($80). Shop the matching Bouclé Jacket ($50). Shop the matching Lila Jacket ($189). While florals for spring may not be groundbreaking, this year designers gave them a fresh and fun touch opting for “tacky florals” in bold motifs and vibrant hues.
