LORAC Soleil PRO Palette Review & Swaatches – OWNSKIN

Soleil

LORAC Soleil Pro Palette (2020) ($35.00 for 0.56 oz.) contains 18 eyeshadows with nine matte shades and nine shimmer shades; the palette is divided in half with the mattes on the left and the shimmers on the right. The mattes were lightly powdery at times, so some shades had more medium to semi-opaque coverage that sometimes could be built up but would be best paired with an eyeshadow primer. The shimmers were, largely, very pigmented, emollient, and easy to work with and had better longevity on their own. I did feel like the shimmers had a lot of overlap in color/tone, so it was not the most versatile palette as a result.

Warm Vanilla

Warm Vanilla is a soft, light beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a lightly powdery consistency that felt finely-milled and smooth to the touch. It lasted nicely for seven hours before fading a bit.

In 2020, the brand reformulated their PRO eyeshadows and released new palettes (and new shades, however new-new they might be). The formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” that “last[s] without creasing” and “blend[s] effortlessly.” Each eyeshadow can also be removed from its respective palette–there’s an included tool to do so–to rearrange the palette or depot (nice touch!).

The mattes felt less thin and were not quite as dry as the prior formula–a bit silkier–though the matte eyeshadows are still lightly to moderately powdery with light fallout but are blendable. I think it’s a formula more suitable to someone who tends to prefer buildable coverage and a little more muted color.

The shimmers were slightly creamier, smooth, and blendable with higher color coverage that had good adherence to bare skin. They seemed a little thicker than the prior formula, which I think gave them better hold.

For the most part, they were easy to use with most shades lasting between seven and eight hours, which is average, so the longevity wasn’t any better/worse than most eyeshadows on the market (including the prior formula).

Pink Beige

Pink Beige is a medium peach with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff initially, but it sheered out a bit during application due to the softer, more powdery texture that was also slightly thin. It stayed on well for seven hours before fading noticeably.

Opal

Opal is a light, golden beige with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow had rich color coverage that applied well to bare skin and blended out with ease. The texture was smooth to the touch with a denser feel, but it wasn’t overly thick or too firmly-pressed into the pan. It lasted well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Soft Pearl

Soft Pearl is a light-medium peach with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff that applied fairly evenly to my lid. The texture was moderately dense, slightly thicker compared to other shimmers in the palette, and it was easier to get a smooth application with a fingertip. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Aurora

Aurora is a light copper with moderate, warm undertones–between red and gold–paired with a bright, metallic finish. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation in a single layer, which applied well to bare skin. The texture was lightly creamy without being too dense or too thick, so it was easy to work with. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Sand Dune

Sand Dune is a light, golden brown with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was moderately powdery, so it was more prone to sheering out and had light fallout. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage but was best applied over an eyeshadow primer to ensure its longevity and opacity. It lasted nicely for seven hours before fading a bit.

Morocco

Morocco is a light-medium orange with strong, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that was blendable and so finely-milled that it didn’t seem to yield visible fallout, though I could see powder flyaway a bit during blending. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Red Cedar

Red Cedar is a muted, medium copper with warmer, brownish undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage that applied well to my lid, as the color stayed true but blended out nicely along the edges. The texture was smooth, silky, and finely-milled without being too powdery. It lasted well for seven and a half hours before fading a bit.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Saffron

Saffron is a medium, reddish-copper with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, lightly powdery but blendable and not overly prone to fallout. It had mostly opaque color payoff that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer more. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Ash Brown

Ash Brown is a medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly to bare skin. The texture was soft, silky, and blendable without being too powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Mojave

Mojave is a deep, reddish copper with warm undertones and a shiny, metallic finish. The texture was smooth, moderately dense, and lightly creamy, which helped it have good adhesion skin while remaining blendable. It had rich color payoff that lasted nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Euphoria

Euphoria is a muted, medium-dark brown with warm, reddish undertones and a pearly sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was a little thicker than other shimmers but not to the point where it caused trouble. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

I did feel like the shimmers had a lot of overlap in Continue Reading… Temptalia
