ColourPop 5 Star Island Shadow Quad Review & Swatches – OWNSKIN

5 Star Island

ColourPop 5 Star Island Pressed Powder Quad ($12.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition foursome that includes one pressed glitter and three eyeshadows. This, along with the rest of the Animal Crossing collaboration, launch January 28th at 10AM PT on ColourPop’s website and February 14th at Ulta.

I wish the brand had included a Super Shock Shadow instead of a glitter, since I think they can achieve a similar look and feel with that, which would have made the palette more versatile and appeal to a broader audience. The quality was decent here with the two more matte shades being a little powdery and the shimmer being nice. The glitter was comparable to past glitters, though I find the brand could do a better job describing the formula or indicating what shades are sheerer or more opaque.

Isabelle

Isabelle has a translucent base with finer glitter particles that seemed dominated by pale, slightly iridescent pink with pastel peach and lavender glitter particles. This shade contained plastic (PET) glitter, and it came with the warning that it is not intended for the immediate eye area. It had medium coverage that had good dispersion and spread well on my skin. The texture was emollient, lightly tacky, and had fairly good adhesion to my skin on its own. It lasted for eight hours with light migration when applied to my cheeks.

Island Tune

Island Tune is a brighter, medium pink with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was soft, blendable, and a smidgen powdery in the pan. It had opaque color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely. This shade wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing.” The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they’re not intended for usage on the immediate eye area.

The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.

NOTICE: All products categorized under “Pigment” carry a warning in the US that the product is “not intended for use in the immediate eye area.” Brands in the US typically market these products as “Pigments” (instead of “Eyeshadow”), and there is often a warning on the back of packaging or the label. The product includes color additives that are not approved for usage on the eyes per the

FDA.

Some color additives in “Pigments” have no usage restrictions in the EU, per CosIng, and can be used on the eyes. We recommend checking ingredients to confirm current safety assessment/restrictions:

Island Designer

Island Designer is a bright, sunny yellow with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had rich color coverage with a soft, smooth texture that wasn’t too powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

$4.50/0.05 oz. – $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Resident Rep

Resident Rep is a medium, reddish-plum base with warmer undertones that had flecks of gold sparkle over more of a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well, but the sparkles had a mind of their own as they didn’t bind with the base color, so those dispersed too readily and resulted in some fallout, too. The texture was soft and smooth, but it was a little powdery and had a bit of fallout during application. It lasted decently for eight hours with slight fallout over time.
