Fans were dreaming of a Friends reunion ever since the beloved NBC sitcom aired the final joke on May 6, 2004. Now, that dream is officially a reality. It’s happening! Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer confirmed a Friends reunion special on Instagram on Friday.
Speculation has abounded about a Friends reunion special for years, with Kudrow and others insisting that it will never happen. Apparently, “never” arrived. The rumor is that each of the six stars will receive a minimum of $2.5 million for showing in the exclusive unscripted special.
I am not exactly sure what, “unscripted” means in this context. But we are talking about Friends here. Unscripted was what they did. The Friends reunion special will occur on the initial Warner Brothers lot in Burbank. It is unsure if there will be any kind of structure. Will Kudrow, LeBlanc, Aniston, Cox, Perry, and Schwimmer simply improvise? (Remember the season 2 episode “The One Where Dr. Ramoray Dies,” during which LeBlanc’s character Joey Tribbiani gets his Days of Our Lives character killed off for telling a reporter he wrote his own lines.)
Whatever form it takes, we can’t wait to see what twists and turns the Friends gang lives have taken over the past 14 years. Are Ross and Rachel still together—or are they on another break? Are Monica and Chandler’s now-teenage twins on TikTok? Is Phoebe a full-time goop employee? Is anyone going to address Joey’s failed spinoff? We have to wait and see. Finally, we’re going to get The One With All the Answers. Or not?
